Apple AirPods Max are newest edition of the AirPods family and first pair of over the ear headphones from Apple. After Apple first unveiled the price, the main question everyone asked was, are they really worth the Apple tax? In order to help you with your purchase decision, we compared the Apple AirPods Max against the competing noise cancelling premium headphones from Sony, Bose, and Sennheiser.
The Apple AirPods Max are just like any other apple product and that is a good thing. The AirPods Max are very high quality, The rubberized top with mesh band gives you a gentle support while not pushing too hard on your head. The steel chrome hinges, that connect the head to the earcups, just glide in and out beautifully. The earcups them selves are also metal on the outside, which gives a great look and feel to AirPods Max. The design of the steel chrome hinges allows the earcups to continuously move and rotate as opposed to a fixed design, which also makes the AirPods Max extremely comfortable to wear. The AirPods Max look different than anything else on the market so they will definitely stand out when someone is wearing them.
Comparison of Technical Specifications
There are three things to note about the Apple AirPods Max. Firstly, they do not offer passive listening, which means that you won’t be able to use AirPods max if your battery is not charged. Secondly, the AirPods Max only support AAC audio codec, which means that you might not get consistent performance if you are using Android smartphone. Lastly, if you are planning to use the AirPods Max using wired connection then you will need bi-directional USB-C to lightening cable. The AirPods Max also have a controversial carrying case, as many have compared them to a purse or bra for Star Wars Stormtroopers. The looks aside, the AirPods Max case might not be as functional as the competition because they leave the headband and part of the earcups exposed, which means you can’t easily put them inside your luggage when travelling.
The introduction of Apple AirPods Max might actually be good news for the competitors as these expensive headphones from Sony, Bose, and Sennheiser are now considered cheap compared to Apple’s $550 price tag. If you care about the performance and value, then the Sony WH-1000XM4 will give you the best bang for your buck. If you can manage to get them on sale, Sony WH-1000XM4 are great sounding headphones with excellent noise cancellation and longest battery life compared to everything else. However, even if they might not be worth the price, the Apple AirPods Max are the definitely better than the competition.
