LoCoMoGo Train teaches kids coding through play

The skill of programming has become increasingly important in our continuously evolving digital world. The enormous increase in demand for jobs that require coding skills is a strong sign of that. As a result, almost 91% of parents want their kids to learn how to code. LoCoMoGo has reinvented the classic toy train to teach children aged 4-12 coding through play. The LoCoMoGo Train is the first non-robot toy to take kids from screen-less coding, all the way up to real-world coding when they are a little older.

Traditionally, educational (robot) toys focus too much on programming first, leaving out the fun-loving nature inherent in every child. As a consequence, kids that don’t already have an affinity to engineering or robotics might miss out on the borderless opportunities brought by coding.

The LoCoMoGo Train enables coding through color allowing kids to learn basic if-then code logic. The train also connects to phone or tablet via the LoCoMoGo app that enables programming of the entire train. The Fun First approach to learning gained momentum on Kickstarter. The campaign was funded within the first 10 hours and has reached $30,000 in 48 hours.

How does it work?

The LoCoMoGo train uses a conventional electrical insulation tape, which is used to create the train tracks in any shape or length. Any electrical insulation tape will work, so you can just go to a convenience or hardware store and purchase more tape. LoCoMotive automatically follows the track and depending on the color of the track, the train will execute the command (accelerate, flash lights, slow down, stop) setup by the application. Finally, the LoCoMoGo Train can be extended with many more Train Cars. Each additional Train Car adds a new functionality, enabling more and more fun opportunities to play and code with.

LoCoMoGo train is available on Kickstarter as of March 22, 2020 and it has already reached 100% of its $10,000 goal with 564 backers pledging almost $112,737. The LoCoMoGo train can be reserved for a pledge of $96.  In the box, you get the LoCoMotive, Black/White Tape set. In addition to the regular package, you can get a color car and color tape set in addition to the regular package for $182.
