As of today, Google has updated the look and feel of Gmail with major improvements on the web to increase productivity. Here is a quick look at some of the key features and how you can enable the new Gmail.
Key new features of the new Gmail
- Quickly take actions without opening an email: Including Archive, Delete, Mark as unread or read, and snooze.
- Easy access to attachments—like photos—without opening or scrolling through large conversations.
- Use the new snooze button to put off emails that you want to get to later
- Easily access other apps you use often, like Google Calendar, Tasks, Keep, while you are in Gmail
- Expand or shirk your inbox view by choosing between default, comfortable (expanded), or compact view options
- New “nudge” feature allows you to follow up and respond to messages with quick reminders that appear next to your email messages
- Smart Reply to Gmail on the web to help you reply to messages faster. This is already available on the Gmail mobile app but you can use suggested relies on the web as well.
- New warnings in Gmail that alert you when potentially risky email comes through
- On Mobile app, high-priority notifications can notify you when you receive important messages and it will also suggest when to unsubscribe from newsletters or offers you no longer care about (based on your interaction).
- New confidential mode allows you to remove the option to forward, copy, download or print messages—useful for when you have to send sensitive information via email like a tax return or your social security number. You can also make a message expire after a set period of time, self-destructing messages!!!
How to get the new Gmail
You can start using the newly updated and improved Gmail on the web as of today. Note that some features might take few weeks to show up.
To enable the new Gmail:
- Go to Settings (the cog wheel in the top right corner of your inbox) and
- Select “Try the new Gmail.”
- If you want to switch back later down the road, you can go to the same place and select “Go back to classic Gmail.”
